About The Book “Triple Crown Leadership”

In today’s fiercely competitive world, it takes more than “business as usual” to stay strong and stay ahead of the curve. It takes Triple Crown Leadership. Inspired by the most 51bHtK+BBQLelusive championship in sports, the Triple Crown of horseracing, this compelling road map is designed for leaders at all levels, from supervisors to CEOs. If you want to win, you’ll want this book.

Triple Crown Leadership provides helpful tools for any leader seeking a better way. The book shows you how to:

  • Be excellent (achieve exceptional performance), ethical (do the right thing), and enduring (stand the test of time)
  • Align your organization for peak performance
  • Instill a culture of character
  • Lead with both “steel” and “velvet”
  • Achieve impact and sustainability while maintaining high performance.
  • Turn your company around after a breakdown.

Based on the authors’ experience and interviews with over sixty organizations in eleven countries, this book provides compelling leadership lessons from an array of enterprises, including Zappos, Google, eBay, Infosys, Xerox, Spotify, Mayo Clinic, KIPP, Ashoka, and more. Executives Bob and Gregg Vanourek–a dynamic father and son team–show you how to achieve high performance, integrity, and sustainability.

In horseracing, it takes more than speed for a horse like Secretariat to win the Triple Crown. In organizations, it takes both head and heart, commitment to an inspiring cause, steel and velvet leadership, stewardship, and alignment–the practices of triple crown leadership. Triple Crown Leadership also provides hard-hitting, practical advice on leading turnarounds, startups, and social ventures–and addresses the leadership needed from CEOs, boards, senior managers, and even people without authority.

154 – John Kramp & David Atchison: Founders of “The Riverstone Group”

The Riverstone GroupThe Riverstone Group was formed in 1975 while John Kramp and David Atchison were both students at Baylor University. Back then, the company was called Kratch. From the beginning, Kratch was a global powerhouse… at least on the back of a napkin.

Actually, after college, John and David moved to different regions of the country and pursued different professional goals. They started new organizations individually but Kratch remained a back-burner dream.

In 1992, John and David reconnected in Nashville and reestablished their long-time friendship. When telling others about their college days, they laughed about Kratch. The problem was that neither of them could remember how the company was going to make money. They just knew it was going to be big.

In 2011, over coffee, they decided the time had come to make Kratch a reality. With wise counsel from their wives, they determined that rather than Kratch, they would name the company The Riverstone Group.

JohnJohn Kramp led as a division president and corporate vice president at LifeWay, a $500 million private company based in Nashville. Before his 20-year business career, John led churches for 15 years in Texas and Oregon.

With an MBA from Northwestern University (Kellogg Graduate School of Management), an MDiv from Southwestern Seminary and a BA in Sociology from Baylor University, John brings a rich set of business and educational experiences.

John has published three books including, On Track Leadership: Mastering What Leaders Actually Do.

DavidDavid Atchison is a 35-year veteran in commercial real estate development and consulting in the Shopping Center industry. For the last two decades, he has provided expertise and wisdom for professionals and organizations, focusing specifically on small business leaders.

David also directs Higher Call, a ministry that has challenged thousands of business professionals over the last 15 years.

He founded the Retail Christian Network and has published two books including Reflections on a Higher Call. David has a BBA in Business Administration from Baylor University.

153 – Chris Hogan: Host of Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership Podcast; Professional Speaker & Coach

Chris HoganChris’s professional experience with money has run the gamut from consumer finance to mortgages to banking and now to financial counseling and speaking. With almost 20 years’ experience in the financial world, Chris has become a student of money and its influence and effects on individuals, families, and businesses.

[saf feature=”itunes” cta=”Subscribe & Listen in iTunes”]

When he was fresh out of graduate school, Chris started with a consumer finance company that quickly utilized his people skills, sales ability and booming voice to sell, collect, and lead a team. After spending 6 years in the industry, Chris had learned the intricate details of how the various products of personal loans, merchant contracts, mortgages and insurance all tied into the credit game.

After managing offices and teams in multiple states, the consumer finance world had taken a toll on Chris. He began to see how the industry was focused on one thing – sell and close – at all costs. Having reached a point where he could no longer “push products” he knew that it was time for a change.

Chris then gained additional experience in mortgages as well as in the consumer banking industry. But he still felt a void in his desire to more fully impact families and businesses and their relationship with money. Instead, he was only able to help on isolated transactions instead of one’s entire outlook of their finances.

Chris now focuses on what he calls the “Three E’s” – educating, encouraging and empowering people to take an active role in how they relate to money. His goal is to give people information using edu-tainment. He wanted to educate people in an entertaining way, yet challenge them to “think bigger and do better.” He is also able to give concrete guidance and anecdotes from his varied experiences.

He understood that if he could change the way people view money, they could change their financial picture. If people were able to change their financial picture, they could establish a legacy.

The goal is simply stated, but there is much work to be done. He travels the country speaking to groups, businesses, and individuals to help them with this mission.
